Your New Baby

Originally we all grew up in local communities, where women would be around their mothers, sisters, grandmothers and be around babies and children from a young age - picking up the skills and confidence to care for our own newborn when the day came.

Since the industrial revolution we have all dispersed throughout the UK and in fact further afar, and many times the first time women care for a new baby is when it's their own. And while we can attend antenatal classes on how to care for your baby, it's usually once you get home with your baby that you actually think 'now how do I go about caring for my baby?'

I can visit you in the week after your baby is born, or in fact anytime you feel you would like some advice on how to care for your baby. Most parents know what to do instinctively, and this session aims to reinforce your practical skills and knowledge, and build your confidence in areas such as:

  • Breastfeeding or bottlefeeding
  • Changing and bathing your baby
  • Sleeping - baby's and yours!
  • Crying
  • Holding baby the right way
  • Dressing - what's right and what's too much or too little
  • Playtime
  • Travelling with baby

Your New Baby session is based on practical advice, skills and solutions to get parenting off to a confident start.

Fee: £55 - Individual Your New Baby session of up to 2 hours

Remember - you will be visited by a midwife every few days for the first 10 days after the birth of your baby, (and even up to 28 days or more if you need it). And you can talk to her about anything.

Your health visitor will then visit you about 10 days after the birth, and tell you about the local clinic where your baby can be weighed, and about postnatal groups or classes where you can meet other new parents.
